Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre

The Shukumisa Campaign was launched in 2008 by members of the National Working Group on Sexual Offences (NWGSO). "Shukumisa" means ‘to stir and shake up’ - which is what the Campaign intends do in relation to social attitudes to sexual violence and the treatment of survivors in their encounters with state services through the criminal justice process. The NWGSO was originally formed in 2004 to advocate around the proposed Sexual Offences Bill. On the Bill’s enactment in late 2007, the NWGSO turned its focus to the implementation of the Act via the Shukumisa Campaign.

Currently, the Shukumisa Campaign consists of 45 member organisations and three individual members, covering all nine provinces.  Tshwaranang currently is the secretariate of the campaign.
